Benkadi Ivory Coast

Created in 2005, the Convention de la Société Civile Ivoirienne (CSCI) is an apex of apolitical, secular, non-regionalist, non-racial and non-profit organizations whose general objective is to influence political, economic and social processes. for the well-being of the populations residing in Côte d'Ivoire. Its mission thus aims to promote the rule of law, good governance, human rights, participatory and inclusive democracy.

The CSCI and four NGO platforms from the West African sub-region, which are the Public Action Citizen Control Platform (PASCIB) in Benin, the National NGO Consultation Secretariat in Mali, (SECO-ONG) and the Permanent Secretariat of NGOs (SPONG) in Burkina Faso, implement, in partnership with the Dutch organization Woord en daad, the program entitled "BENKADI" and financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands for a period of 5 years.

In Côte d'Ivoire, the Benkadi project is entitled: Advocacy project for the improvement of public policies on climate change with a view to mitigating and adapting vulnerable populations to the effects of coastal erosion and degradation of protected areas”.

Its strategic objective is to improve the resilience of vulnerable groups to the consequences of climate change, especially women, young people and people with disabilities. The project takes into account the improvement of civic space in the country in terms of dialogue with public authorities.

In Côte d'Ivoire, the project focuses on two main issues: - Mitigation and adaptation to the effects of coastal erosion of local populations in the south of the country; - The preservation of 7 main protected areas facing extensive agriculture in the District of Abidjan and in the following 10 regions: Tchologo, Bounkani, Hambol, Marahoué, Tonkpi, Cavally, Guémon, Bafing, Worodougou and Grands Ponts    

Main targets

  • Vulnerable communities, especially those living on the coastal strip or near protected areas; women's organizations, youth organizations, religious leaders, traditional leaders, people with disabilities (PSH), fishermen, fishmongers, people working in agro-industry and tourism, and construction, etc. .
